Gosh! Lots of animosity up there in Andes against us New Yorkers!

What did we do to be SO hated!?

"Rotten Apple". Poor New York! The greatest city on earth gets insulted by the citizens of the great State of New York!

Hey, I hate cell phones too. I like the countryside. But I love New York City and I'm sad when you attack my great town with so much anger and for no reason.

Manhattan-there are a lot of folks from NYC in the Andes area. I don't think there is any animosity towards NYCers! Many relocated and many weekenders. But, remember that this area is all watershed for NYC water, and the NYC politicians and government have come up here a strongarmed many towns because of the watershed. So, in that sense you can hear people say "the NYC people and there water that they get from us"

BUT, I am about 6 miles NW from Andes-Andes is the smaller of the 3 towns we go to get stuff in the real world. But, Andes is beautiful, certainly right out of town and the surroundings!

Simpler way of life for sure, but nothing is perfect. Come on up and stay a while!
We are seriously thinking of moving out of here. Both of us are native to Dutchess-but it's just not feeling like home anymore. The hubby lived out in Lagrange and it was so rural back when he was growing up. Now everywhere you look there's a house where cows grazed. My kids have never known the luxury of seeing a nigh sky without light pollution(except we we head north for camping. ). They've just finished the reassessment here and the taxes are heading for astronomical. We just have started looking around the state to see where would be the best fit for us. Want a nice sized piece of property-5 acres would be great. Lower taxes, no traffic and no sirens. Might head up that way in the Spring to check out the area.

Hi first time on here.I live on li suffolk county.Grew up here in 60s 70s when it was more farms and open space. am getting sick of the high prices and hightaxes and heavy traffic and commuting 60 miles to nyc.Recently bought property upstate and am thinking of moving up there.Western ny on pa border. Can any tell me how the schools are and if there is any employment.Property is about 22 miles from binghamtonon near the delaware river in a town called Sanford NY.Are there any wind turbines going up in the area?Im a life long long islander but have been vacationing upstate for just as long.I dont hate li and i love the beaches and the fishing but its just too crowded here and you have to work two jobs just to pay the taxes. Also i work in nyc for quite awhile and wouldnt mind if i never had to go there again.

Question Stamford, NY?

Hi rnyc! Ex-Suffolk County person here. I think you mean Stamford, NY which fits your geographic description. I can not really help with employment or schools, but I hate to tell yell.....turbines are coming by the end of the year most likely. The installation is on the Rt 23 corridor, between Stamford and Grand Gorge so look to see where your property is relative to the area. here is a link to a recent article that has a map of the Moorseville project to help you see where they will be http://www.allianceforbovina.org/A2-1.pdf.

Further, google "Stamford, NY Wind Turbines" and you will get more info. Last, there is a website, westerncatskillpreservationalliance.org, that is Stamford's grass-root org. against the turbines.

I think amoung those three you will find some good information. Aside from the turbines, it really is great up here and very much like old LI. You will find most of the relocated FT'ers and second-homeowners are from LI, NYC, Westchester and Conn., so it may be more familiar than you think.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new property!

Hi everyone,
Well I just found this webbsite, and just like alot of you I agree with the residents of Andes. Igrew up in Andes when I was in my teens and wish I still lived there! Because of the quiet serinity of the town. If ny wants power tell them to go fly a kite for power! I live in Texas now but will be visiting soon to see if old friends are still there
