The Catskills? (Albany, Kingston, Hudson: homes, schools, taxes)

Does anyone know what it's like living there?Jobs,schools,taxes,property prices,medical care,etc.?

..living near Kingston, good jobs weren't that plentiful, but theres alot more than Kingston. If you're in the medical field, law enforcement, and education there were jobs when I left. There are several decent hospitals in the area, but most people go down to NYC/Westchester County, or up to Albany for specialized care, although Benedictine Hospital in Kingston now has a comprehensive cancer center that I've been reading excellent thungs about. The Catskills are a wonderful, beautiful area to live. Many NYC transplant prefer the other side of the Hudson River in Dutchess County for it's more manicured look and feel. I like the whole area. After living all over the USA, I have to say the State of NY (and many areas of MA/VT/NH/NJ - yes NJ believe it or not) are fabulous. Ithica is a neat town. Bennington/Brattleboro, VT are nice, many areas of western Mass are quaint. All these areas are easily accessable for weekend getaway trips. Heck, you might even take a longer trip to visit Doylestown, PA, Lambertville, NJ for more wonderful northeast ambiance/experiences. California and Hawaii may have some stunning topography, but there is a unique character to the better places in the NE that is unsurpassed too.

Catskills. Sorry, went off on my typical tangent w/o addressing your questions. Taxes in NYC & NYS & the Catskills are not good compared to much of the country unless you come from the ten or so states that also never saw a taxation they didn't like. The schools in the Catskills are good, like everywhere better in some areas that in others. Properties prices vary with the popularity of a paticular area - a Woodstock home is less affordable than most homes in the town of Hudson or Catskill, but both areas have a selection of prices from average to nosebleed. I know this response is not much help & too general, but there you go.
