Newburgh or Wappingers Falls
I am thinking about moving up to Newburgh and I was also looking at Wappingers Falls how are the condos up there are they nice? They look so nice on the internet if anyone could help me I would appreciate it. I'm married with a 10yr old son and he loves the community pools. Can you please give the good zipcodes and the bad zipcodes. And also the schools are they good? Thank you for any information that you can help me with.

Newburgh is a funny place, I grew up in New Windsor, which you can think of as a suburb of both Manhattan and Newburgh. The Newburgh is the school for both towns. The district is definitely challenged, however they offer more programs and more opportunity then any other district around. From the AP programs, to Technical school programs right on the NFA campus.
I was on the AP track in school, the best part was we didn't even need to take the AP exams, the classes were taught by an accreditted proffessors right on campus and for a discount rate because we were in highschool.
Wappinger is a nicer town to look at in terms of pure aestetics I guess. Has more of the country feel. However I know some teachers there and they say the budgets are always a mess, the school and the teachers are underfunded, and that they have a problem with violence. I dont know first hand but that is what I have been told.
Newburgh is a large area encompassing both the town and city, as well as the surronding town of New Windsor. Good luck.

I live in the town of poughkeepsie and my kids go to wappinger schools. I love the schools here. the parents are very involved with their kids and the school. we have not had any problems. my kids love their teachers...my sister in law teaches in the newburgh school district and the stories she comes home with I can not believe actually happen, and she teaches kindergarten. I would hate to see what the upper levels are like! i would steer toward wappingers!

these two are like night and day
Hello....
I have to back the other replies you have received. These two places are like night and day. I went to Wappingers schools and went to College in Newburgh. In Wappingers, we rode bikes all over and the world was good. At college in Newburgh, our campus was like an island. We would hear shots and such and never wandered far off campus. Walking toward 84 was acceptable as the convenient store was there and it was a more business like area as opposed to houses. anyway, if you are still undecided, go drive around a bit, it should be all too clear to you which place to move after that. Best of Luck

You are all referring to the city of Newburgh. The town of Newburgh is different although the school district is mostly Newburgh. New Windsor offers Newburgh, Washingtonville and Cornwall schools depending on what part of New Windsor you are living in. You can usually find better home prices in Orange County as opposed to Dutchess County and Orange County (especially New Windsor) has quite a bit of growth going on. Dutchess County is growing but compared to Orange it looks like a hodge podge of various ideas.
