1950's resort called Holiday Lodge, near Cairo NY
Looking for information about an old resort named "Holiday Lodge." We went there in 1958 and would love to find out what happened to it. Thanks.

Do you happen to remember if it was on a main drag like Routes 32, 23, 81 or 9W? Or if it was a little more off the beaten path? My husband & I used to make frequent weekend drives down that way & stopped at many of the old resorts. A few are still there operating as an adapted version of what they were in the 50s & 60s. If they are still dba resorts, most of them concentrate on the golf course end of it.
A few more have become banquet houses & conference centers & still a few more than that have become religious retreats - some bought by very big, powerful & well-known players in the religious arena.
I am down that way on business about once a week & your question has me intrigued! I will see what I can dig up when I meet with the locals.

Thanks for responding. Sorry, I do not remember any main roads. It definitely was not near or visible from any main road. The "resort" was just two buildings and a pool, surrounded by fields. The larger building was the main building (dining hall, kitchen, lounge) and was on one side of the (very) country road. The "annex" was a smallish building on the other side of the road, near the pool. I think the original owners were Hungarian so it might have been a favorite place for Hungarian vacationers. Then a couple (Laura and Jack, with 3 children) bought it. My mother knew those owners, and we spent a wonderful summer there, out of the city. (My mother is deceased, and my brother and I were very young when we were there -- 1958). It could very well have been an old house that was converted to a resort -- and the annex and pool added later. Thank you so much!

Nevele is still in business. One of the last Catskill Resorts left.
