I used to think that.....until I took a trip up there. It doesn't feel rural to me......and I have been living in NYC all my life. However, Orange County is pretty big.....so it depends where you are talking about.

Not anymore, the Monroe/Woodbury area has been booming for the last decade or so. The mindset chainged in the 90's and driving 90 minutes has become acceptable for the "quality of life" that was still affordable in Orange. But like Rockland before it nirvanna has been discovered and the cost advantage is dissapearing.

Yep, it does depends where in Orange County. Some places are still very much rural, such as Western Orange (West of Middletown and further away from route 17). The towns of Deer Park, Minisink, Mount Hope, Greenville are rural with farm land still..
Orange County growth has been centered on towns close to route 17 from Middletown to Harriman, Warwick and the Northeastern part (Newburgh, New Windsor, Cornwall, Montgomery).
