Thank you Jeromeville, exploring old ruins and a bridge to Vermont sounds fascinating! We won't have the budget for taking in a big NASCAR race at "The Glen", the state park sounds great though!

If only I could spend a month instead of just a week vacationing in NYS, everyone has given such great choices, we may have trouble deciding.

I'd still like to hear more, so please keep the great posts coming.

I live in the lower hudson valley, All within 40 minutes of each other we have the Mohonk Preserve(one of the last greatest places on the earth) Minnewaska State Park, Sams Point Preserve, incredible hiking, views, Check this area out before you finalize your plans.

We stayed a couple of days in Canadaigua last year. It is very beautiful.
