I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt as she stated she's vowed to represent the entire state of New York, though I may not be supportive of her political connections and ultra conservative points of views.
Have to say it, but yes, I'd consider Columbia County to be sort of "upstate". Not the most upstate, but still upstate. It's beyond the borderline, even though east of the Hudson. (East of the Hudson, the line tends to go substantially north in peoples' minds.)
I am kind of surprised. Is this a serious question and some people actually think Columbia is Downstate??? More in common with Manhattan and Brooklyn then with Washington or Saratoga Counties?
Columbia County, with its farms, forests, hills and small mountains, is further north of the majority of the Catskills Mountains and is adjacent to Massachusetts and the Berkshires. So unless you think the Catskill Mountains with their 900,000 acres of wilderness and wildlands is Downstate (which means you know nothing about Downstate) then we can safely that Columbia is UPSTATE.

I agree. Columbia county is directly east of the southern tier. If one were to stretch the southern tier all the way to the NE border Columbia county would be part of it.
I went back to the first page and it is interesting that besides from the OP, most people consider Columbia County Upstate. I really don't see how anybody with any geographical sense can consider Columbia to be Downstate. The second poster thinks that Long Island is not part of Downstate, rather it is own thing. We all have different opinions I guess.
