Unhappy If you were to relocate

Where would you go ?

Here is a brief scope of me- Single, no kids, no exs, not a lot of debt, and I don't own, I rent- So basically I have absolutely no ties or baggage holding me down ... I'm deathly, painfully sick of winter and hate the cold as well as the snow. I passionately love the heat, sun, and surf- Definitely a beach girl. I'm miserable here and feel stagnant- I'm sick of my job, and as an Executive Assistant, I maybe able to utilize those skills anywhere ... Or get settled and go back to school at night ...

The issue is I have never been anywhere out of NJ or NY, but I'm adventurous and always land on my feet so I would be willing to try ...

I have heard Corpus Christi (Texas) is beautiful, as is San Diego (California). I have a very close friend in Sante Fe (New Mexico). I also hear Miami Beach area of Florida is trendy and upscale in certain areas ... My friend just left for Brazil for 3 months- he said I'd love it there- But, to another country, out of the US scares me ... Although, I do love the Caribbean and have excellent bartending skills ... (Bora Bora) !

Thoughts ... ?

I would NOT relocate to Santa Fe! Only because, much like myself, you don't like the cold. Much of New Mexico is perceived as a warm state nationally, but for the most part, that is not true. I live near El Paso TX, and the weather here this time of year is usually about 60 degrees. In Santa Fe, however, you won't see anything over the 30s in the winter. It's every bit as cold there in the winter as it is in Bergen County. It's just not very damp. That's the big difference. But its very cold.

That being said, I'd move to San Diego if I were you.

If I were to leave upstate NY I'd stay in the Northeast or Midwest... maybe Boston or Chicago or some place like that. I like being surrounded by history and natural beauty.

curlybelle, for about 2 years now, I have been slowly planning my exit from upstate NY. The people here are great, but I think I can sniff out wonderful folks no matter where I land. The scenery is definitely some of the nicest I've seen anywhere - and I've been making a lot of trips to come to that conclusion & aid in my decision. The northeast has so many positives going for it; but for me the two negatives of NY - taxes & winter - has me looking elsewhere.

You didn't say how old you are, but since you are still unencumbered, you can always move back to NJ/NY if things don't pan out. Why not plan a road-trip vacation? Pick a region that offers you all those things you listed in your OP, and explore! Just from what I've found; coastal properties & towns are too expensive for most unless your job pays really, really well. But you can still find a place that's an hour or two from the beach - not so bad, eh?

A friend of mine was looking for pretty much everything you've listed. He wound up in Georgia. He gets four seasons, but winter there is really just heavy-jacket weather; & a lot shorter, IMO. He's not far from the beach when he needs his fix.

I grew up out west (CO) & loved it. But I'm older now & looking for a slow comfortable, laid back way of life. I just think you should take advantage of the job you have now & use your vacation time to physically visit a region of the country that offers what you seek.

C-D has been a great help to me in opening my eyes to what else is out there. Have you checked out any of the picture threads? I saw one & it spurred me to visit Tennessee....which is now at the top of my relocation list!

Best of luck to you!
