Hello,
My husband and I just moved to Ithaca and we don't know how are we going to make friends here we left a lot friends in Florida.
He works in Elmira and I have not found a job yet. We like to be outdoor, walk with our dog, eat good food, and ....
I just learned how to ski, I loved!!!
I hope to find people like us to do things together.
HOw Hard will it Be???????
I've lived lots of places & Ithacans are generally quite friendly You can try searching Yahoo groups or Craigs list to start with -- Ithaca also has a ripe grassrootsy vibe: volunteer somewhere! It's kind of a rare organization or business in Ithaca that won't allow volunteers Have you gone to The Commons yet? There's usually a booth near Center Ithaca (on The Commons) with flyers for local interests....
Do you have kids? I'm sure I could load you up with ideas if you do!
I read that you have a dog. That's your opening...there is a great dog run at the Alan Treman State Marine Park. Lots of dogs and owners. Plus, there is a walking/biking/roller blade trail that runs alongside the inlet from Cayuga Lake. In the same area is The Hanger Theater which puts on great theater performances, primarily in the warmer months(I think).
As suggested above, try walking The Commons. Lots of interesting shopping, sites, and people there. Also, the Finger Lakes are famous for their wineries. If you are into biking, there is a bike club, although I think they are very fast riders, who go long distances. There are Ithaca's famous gorges and walking trails. And Wegmans grocery store!
Lots to do in Ithaca and lots of interesting people out there to meet.
