My daughters, 13 LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT HERE! They have so many friends! They would NEVER GO BACK to NJ!
Good pizza? I have tried NY Pizza which is good. I will have to try the new place Cinellis in Apex since that is where I live. NYers make the BEST PIZZA! I love the fact that NY pizza has my address, name and phone number on file. So when I call they already know who I am and where I live.
I have yet to venture out and meet anyone because I am still getting settled in and having furniture delivered ect. I will continue to check in and see how everyone else is doing.

First 6 months were great when I moved to NC. As you have said "trust" is a big issue. I agree. I do not trust anyone here. Regionally it seems common place to gossip malicously about others that results in trouble and isolation. Since I have been here I have been slammed behind my back by employees, friends and acquaintences so often. The lying by so many is so troublesome. I did not bring this with me, nor have these issues (to such a degree)before anywhere else I have lived. I am not a perfect person but I do not treat others this way yet people here seem to feel it is acceptable daily behavior. It is puzzling.

Your home in Grandy sounds great. A lift in the garage - nice! Are you guys into Nascar, I presume?

I moved to Mooresville from NY in August & we LOVE it here!! Bklyn Boys is in Mooresville in the Morrison Plantation subdivision. Nice, thin crust...very good. The owner & his family are really nice & yes, he is Bklyn born. There's also Tony's Pizza across rte 150 by the Super Target that's pretty good too.
What you might find disappointing down here are the supermarkets. Groceries are expensive, meat's a bit different, but they do carry Boars Head cold cuts.

I read all the pages on this post and yes my eyes are blurry and tearing
If what I have learned from these posts is that most of the people who say NY are either upstate or long island. This is why it is so hard for me to understand where they are coming from. I live in Brooklyn, NY and I grew up here since I was a babe of 2. It has changed so much it's not funny. First and foremost housing is INSANE homes sell for over 4tho and some for as much as 7thousand for no land no pool no space. It is not the same Brooklyn I knew as a kid. My kids can't play outside alone and I still have to drive my 14 yr old to school. Sidewalks are filled with dog ****, no one here speaks English anymore, last I checked we were still in America. I can't deal with it and hope we love NC when we go visit. I am curious though about those of you who talked about gossipers and such, did you find it to be more so then other areas you have lived in?

Of all the places i'd recommend an average person to move to, north carolina would probably be the last since it is a very anti union state. A state that is anti labor is obviously not for the people.

Thanks

1. Syracuse NY
2. Albany area
3. Orange county NY
4. Pike county PA
5. Lower Pioneer Valley MA (Hampton county) avoiding Springfield.
6. Dover Delaware
-MA is ranked the 7th most liveable state in the country. Despite it's nickname "Taxachusetts" I found it to be very reasonable compared to NYS. You can find a nice home for 300K. Jobs are in Springfield and Hartford CT, a rare few even commute to Boston or Worcester. Good towns are Hadley, Southwick, Amherst, Longmeadow, Easthampton. Some good school districts, low crime area and very clean (Outside of inner Springfield/Holyoke).
-Pike County PA is cheaper all the way around than NY or MA, but finding a job is more difficult. If you can find work within 1 hour commute (such as Middletown or Newburgh NY) then it makes the area very attractive. You can find a nice new built for under 300K. Taxes are cheap. Downside: you may feel a tad isolated.
- Syracuse NY, Albany NY - very cheap housing, decent economy and job opportunities. Taxes still a little high but last I looked you can get into a home for under 200K (thus 6k taxes) in Syracuse's surrounding areas and under 300K in Albany's surrounding areas (even less if you are willing to commute 1 hr). Pay is a little lower but you get more bang for your buck when you pull up to your house.
-Orange County- still can get to NYC for friends and family and activities, good quality of life and nice Good shopping and nice in that you can choose to live in the boonies or in a development. Homes can be had for under 400K (even 300K in Western areas). Decent employment opportunities, good schools. Aside from Newburgh, very clean. Many parts commutable to NYC by car/bus/train. Downside: high property taxes. Worth it if you can afford it, might be able to if you are keeping a job in NYC or selling a home on LI/Rockland/Westchester areas.
- And finally, Delaware- South of Smyrna is pretty cheap all the way round. Very cheap property taxes, houses for under 300K. Beaches, casinos, decent resturants and pretty clean rural areas. Downside, harder to find a high paying job unless you work for government or health care.
Sorry if I digress, but in a way this is pertinent because the craze of moving to NC really IMO is blown out of proportion. There are good places to live up this way.

I would rather move to Kansas during tornado season and sit in the middle of the biggest field that I can find and just wait, then move to NC!!
