The humidity in NC in the summer is absolutely unbearable. I will not go outside because it is so uncomfortable.

honestly, i know a few ppl that think that moving to NC is the answer. let me be honest and say that (in my experience) it is not. try harder. i promise you that there is a huge chance that you will be taking a huge loss.

i cannot stress enough about the lack of opportunities in NC, the lack of seasons in NC, the abundance of low wage positions, the lack of things to do, the lack of decent public transportation, etc.

there are pros. its pretty in the spring and in the fall. some ppl are nice. its nice to meet ppl from various areas of our country anyway, right? its nice to visit/experience various regions within this country. however, IMHO, the cons far outweigh the pros.

Hello I am writing you from Carolina. I can't wait to get back to N.Y.S.! Some people love to complain about N.Y. but let me tell you something...
Workers have NO RIGHTS here in Dixie, Sure you will save money on property tax, but wait till you try and buy something 8.5% sales tax in this area, Excise tax on your auto, car insurance sky high from ' no fault' with all the UNINSURED driver on the roads. And JUST WAIT till you see your property insurance and Electrical bills ! ! ! Move to a area where there are LOTS of Northerners because Southerners will never let you forget ' your NOT from Dixie ...' this is true even if you do as the Romans do. If your Liberal , a Progressive or a Democrat or just have some civil libertarian leanings keep them to yourself. Nod and smile at the remarks about how wonderful Bush was and how terrible Obama is. Don't confuse things by pointing out facts, it is hard to make friends and easy to get ignored. I hope you LOVE mosquitoes because they will be your constant companions, if it does ' get cool ' out doors 70 something at night, they will chase you back into your refrigerated box where you spend most of your time. Lightning and thunder will knock you out of your bed, pine trees snapping will worry you to death, your well water will be stinky and polluted by your neighbors who throw everything and anything in there yard with out consideration to the environment and oh yeah Crack heads and gun carriers are every where. And talk about Crime? OMG through the roof!!! I could go on.....

41 Years was enough. You cannot base the past winter as norm!
Last Electric bill was 450 for the month

AVERAGE high 95 ..that means half are hotter July

This is NOT heat indexes , these are actual temperatures! Columbia , South Carolina Your going to LOVE your electric bills! Each and every month of the year each and every day of the year can be in the 80s at some point during the day. You will NEVER get rid of those BITING BUGS!! Oh and by the way, think you will get away in winter without paying for oil? They heat in the south with ....thats right you guessed it ELECTRIC HEAT PUMPS!!!

You will need them too. Because of the humility that is as constant as the bugs that bite ( like fire ants ) you are going to feel COLD AND CLAMMY at night because of inadequacy of the heating systems. But don't worry, In January you may freeze at night but during the day it might be in the mid to upper 80s.

It isn't that bad. Keep in mind I have lived in NC all of my life save for '87 in the Bronx. I've yet to hear anyone referred to as a 'yankee' unless their talking baseball !!
I'm certain you know to formulate your own conclusion about this.
Tantamount to why we are endowed with cerebrals in the first place!!

I couldn't possibly relate to your perspective and I'm a transplanted New Yorker living in North Carolina for a few years now.

Car insurance is not cheaper in New York; I pay nearly half of what I did in NY. My well water is just fine and considering it's pumped from about 200 feet below the surface I'd be hard pressed to understand how my neighbors could pollute the source, not they would anyway. Crack? Guns? Crime? Which postage-sized plot of land are you living in here in the NC? I don't even see these things very often in the News and Observer and unless the horses are carrying on when I'm not paying attention it most certainly isn't happening anywhere near where I hang out.

No place is Nirvana (except of course for Nirvana) but North Carolina is a pretty fine place to be in the mornin'.

Hey, they pollute water here in NY too! n Our neighbor slaughters cows and deer in his garage, and throws the offal out into the stream that borders our property. Thank God our well is way over on the other side, but who knows what is leeching into our cistern?
