LOL - if by "speedTRAP", you mean that NY State Troopers sit in medians and pull over people going 11+mph over the speed limit... I guess that's true. I'm not seeing the "trapping" part though. Open your eyes. Check your rearview mirrors and slow down near the bends, in case there's a trooper sitting there. Oh! And near the barracks, obviously.

Or not so obviously.

Here's a crazy thought- if you don't speed, you won't be pulled over. Imagine that.

I am always amazed at folks getting bent out of shape when they get nailed going 80 in a 65. What is the big rush? Since I've slowed down I find I get there almost as quickly, and am so much more relaxed not having to worry about the cop around the next bend. It is funny though. In the immortal words of the great George Carlin, "Ever notice how everyone going slower than you is a moron and everyone going faster is a maniac?"

I just got pulled over last night by the Seneca Casino doing 77 in a 65. I'm so used to the speed limit be 70 in Florida. Luckily the officer only gave me a citation.

Give me a break I had to drive to Binghamton from Erie to find an apartment. It was such a long day I just wanted to get home.

I-81 between Whitney Point and Castle Creek was notorious growing up and when I come through still seems to be a hot spot. (Northern Broome County)

It's amazing how troopers can sit in the median, in the middle of no where and still pull people over. Some people are so clueless when they are driving.

It still is. On I-81 going south from Watertown, between Sandy Creek and Pulaski is another area to look out for. North bound on that same stretch, at the Jefferson/Oswego County line is another spot.

Sometimes you can't win. Last ticket I received was after driving for 5 hours at the speed limit like a good boy, had a momentary lapse of judgment and sped up to pass a car doing 5 under, bingo, cop in median behind some shrubbery nailed me at 76 in a 65. What can you do, he had me dead to rights. The worst part was that unknown to me my license was suspended for not paying the surcharge on a ticket for no front plate from a few years prior. (now THAT is bogus)This was in VT, so I was not hauled in. The troop would not let me drive however, and I was the only one in the car who could drive a standard. I don't know what was worse, the ticket or hearing the grinding of the gears by my elderly uncle, who had not driven a stick for 40+ years.

I don't understand why people freak out about speed limits. I get people all the time riding up my ass because I'm going the speed limit and they want to go faster.

And how is the NYS Thruway a speed trap? If you go the speed limit and don't violate other traffic laws, then you won't have a problem. It's relatively simple, so you would think that more people would understand how it works.

If there's one thing in the world I hate, it's idiot drivers, particularly the ones who zoom around faster than they should and then get mad because you're going the speed limit and you're in their way; the one's on cell phones who are too busy yammering away or texting or playing with some distraction to really drive; and the idiots who think that because they're making a left-hand turn they automatically have the right-of-way.

Have you ever driven on the Thruway when it's snowing? People still drive like the speed limit is 65.
