IMO I would stay in NY, you're right there is no place like home. The south is too slow and laid back. If you want a nice place to raise your family move upstate. If you were raised in NY you may not get used to the southern culture of life. I don't know anything about Tampa, but where I'm at I can't wait to move, I moving back up north, NY, NJ, CT far away from the south as I can. If you really wan't to move to Tampa I would suggest checking out the schools, community, etc.

I would stay in NY if you can afford it. Many people that live in NY take things that NY has for granted and are surprised when they move. Many conveniences that you take for granted in NY are not found in other places.
There are countless posts on here from people regretting the move from NY. Also, many people are trying to get out of FL now, might not be the best time to go.

I would be very careful about Fl in general. Let me say that I don't live there. We moved to NC from NY last July. However, I have an uncle who lives in Fl in Zephr Hills. Realestate is not good. Do some checking before you make the jump. It will be a huge difference from what you are used to. Please do your homework so you know what you are getting yourself into. After you are there, it's too late. You might want to post questions in Fl.
Best of luck whatever you decide.

Here's another one. I moved to Oneonta, a dead end college town with more cows than people and can't wait to get out. Upstate is fine if you can put up with the boredom, lack of social and cultural outlets and long, cold, snowy, icy winters. There are so many opportunities in NYC. Nevertheless housing is cheap and getting cheaper in FL esp. if you get a mobile home. There's a lot to be said for year round outdoor activities but lots of heat & humidity and hurricanes that can blow away your cheap mobile are a downside. Clearwater and St. Pete are better than Tampa in the crime department from my research.

For your daughters education alone, stay in New York.

Where in NY do you live? The schools are better in NY, and overall it's much safer than Tampa.

Very Very accurate statement. Moving to Tampa from NYC would be the epitome of regressing.

I agree with the others in terms of education. I think you could move to Upstate and find a nice, safe neighborhood in just about any community with good schools. It's affordable up here too and if you move to one of the major areas, there is enough culture and things to do to keep you busy and interested.

Please be advised that non-profit jobs are not common in the south compared to the northeast. The same for extensive public transportation. Also, keep in mind that most southern states are experiencing record unemployment rates (many counties in the double digits). Since quality education for your children is your priority, stay in New York state. I lived in both Buffalo & NYC...I would recommend upstate if you need a change from the city.
