Default Cold Spring vs Garrison vs Beacon

I am thinking of relocating to the Beacon/Cold Spring/Garrison area from Park Slope, Brooklyn. My partner and I have visited the area and like the feel and atmosphere of the area, particularly in Cold Spring. I work in downtown Manhattan, and do not particularly relish having to drive.

I have read the threads in here as well, but would love to hear from others who live in the vicinity to get the latest updates on the area, as well as other thoughts and recommendations.

Thanks

seren77 will become famous soon enough
Unless you buy very close to train station, you will need to drive. Your commute will anywhere between 65 to 90 minutes depending on what station you choose and time of the day you take the train. You should check mta webpage for train schedule.

I have lived here in Beacon for 2 years and Love it. They do call it little Brooklyn for a reason. Cold Spring and Garrison are great, but lack the grittyness that I love. I am 40 and am with someone and we love the fact that you can walk to so many restaurants, bars, galleries etc... The train station is fairly close to most areas in town and there are shuttles. If you have more questions, please ask.

Thanks for your very informative response.

I am also an avid gardener, and in fact, one of my main reasons for moving up there is to have more gardening space. My garden in Brooklyn is filled to the brim!

We will look up there soon, so will check out Beacon particularly. Being an artist, Beacon beckons that way as well -I love the grittiness too.
Are you familiar with Peekskill? How does the grittiness a la Beacon vs grittiness a la Peekskill?
