When I lived in Binghamton, I was miserable. Then I moved to Orlando and realized how good Binghamton actually was, as scary as that sounds. While over the last 5 years I've lived in Tallahassee (one of the few parts of Florida worth living in for a upstater) the opportunity to come home and live in Rochester was too good to turn down, especially at a liveable salary. So, in a couple of weeks I'm moving back to upstate.

That's an interesting post - Binghamton is better than Orlando! It would appear that Binghamton has next to nothing going for it, while Orlando is growing and has glitz and glamour.
But I have heard from MANY people that most of Florida is a real drag, and that despite its shortcomings (mostly economic), upstate New York is a much better place to live. |

I would really like to move back to Rochester for a million different reasons. I was there for the weekend and I literally cried when I came back to Florida. I miss Rochester so much. At this point I'd be willing to try any career to make it work. The problem is that both my wife and I have decent jobs in Florida, each making 2x what we were in Rochester. |

As my mom would remind me..."your money or your life" - just something to think about..life is very short. If you lived on your previous salary before, perhaps you can again? |

I totally miss living in the Buffalo area. I can't wait to get back. I'm almost willing to buy a house and then look for a job.

The data above shows a different story than you paint. I think the facts speak for themselves. The truth is they are all rust belt cities that are very similar to crime, poverty, and income. Matter of fact I could suggest Akron maybe doing better than Cleveland and Buffalo in all areas. |

Other than the proximity to places like Western MA, Vermont and New Hampshire, there's absolutely nothing I can say we miss. Everything has been better for us since we left.
