I didn't take the C/O test. I don't meet the requirements anyway. Your on the 6063 list right? I believe in the low 2,000's,hopefully DSNY will call you before the list expires in 3 yrs. Good luck,Corrections will always be hiring, there will never be a prisoner shortage, haha.

I don't have the minimum amount of college credits, also my age(39)works against me. I would rather be a traffic agent even though the pay is much lower. I prefer to work outdoors.
I am on the list for NYCTA Bus Operator with a good list number(706)but it will take about 2 yrs before they begin hiring from my list. I can carry over pension time to DSNY after doing 20 yrs. So for example,I do 5 yrs with the MTA,switch to DSNY if I hopefully get a low list number on the next exam,do 20 yrs there and be eligible for a pension with 25 yrs of total service. Which I believe is 57% of your last 3 yrs average pay. I don't see myself doing 25 yrs with the MTA. I prefer to do physical work, but I have to better my score next DSNY exam,no more than 3 wrong,I got 6 wrong on the 6063 exam, they say the 2nd time around is better than the 1st time. Very difficult to get a 100% on any city exam.

You are supposed to have 39 credits, and you cant become a CO until you have 60 credits (CO training gives you 21 credits), unless you are applying to some other CO type job that I'm not aware of. But I believe you are confusing the requirements for the test, for the requirements of actually being accepted to be a co. NYPD tests dont need credits to take them either, but you need 60 creds before you get into the academy.
I'm still debated NYPD or CO. I'm going to have 42 creds this semster, enough for CO.

The OP is referring to the New York State Dept. of Correctional Services. The prisons upstate, not the city jails.

Ahhhh, now I understand.
I wonder if they are as hard to get into (and pay more) as their state police departments?

NYS Corrections Test Results
I got my results on Friday. I scored an 80. I did great on every section except the last one dealing with organizing written information. When I was taking the test it seemed that there were atleast two answers that could be correct for each question. I left there thinking how much of a pain those questions were. The other three sections I got 13 out of 15 correct and the one 3 out of 15. Can't believe it.
