Possibly moving to ny from Florida
So, My g/f and I want to move out of florida. We're deciding between Mass and NY. I know cost of living in NY is ridiculous but where should I start my research? What city has the best job and cheap rent opportunities? Take in mind were both young women and I can't drive. Hoping to find a place for rent under $1500 for a 1br (at least). Any advice you can offer would be most appreciative.

Where in NY do you mean? Are you looking to just move to NYC or are you open to the rest of beautiful NY State? There are plenty of opportunities in the Syracuse area. I'd say a nice 2bd apt. in a safe, even upscale, area would be in the range of $600-$800. Bus passes are reasonable... around $50/mo. for unlimited travel, and we have both a large airport (Hancock) and a regional transportation center with Amtrack, Greyhound, and several other travel companies represented.

Exactly! It depends on where you want to go in NY State and kind of work you are looking for. Syracuse wouldn't be bad. Maybe Ithaca, Saratoga Springs, Binghamton and Albany would be good as far as Upstate. Rochester might not be too bad either and Buffalo, if you can get a job, would be cool too.

Syracuse..I think I'll start my research there. I'll be going to law school so I need an area were I can find a job that pays at least $15p/h. Thanks for the info Proulx; 6-800 isn't bad for a 2 bedroom, thats what you pay down here. And to answer your question i'm not limiting myself to nyc. I'm open to anywhere in New York....Vermont...Mass...I'm just looking to go somwhere where threre's more life and coulture than Florida.

Best bet to be near Mass. and New England... ALBANY. Rentals aren't outrageous and there are numerous apartment complexes. Public Transportation is available. Don't get me wrong it has it's faults crime, etc. Syracuse and Rochester are reasonable too compared to the NYC/Westchester/ Dutchess area but to be in New England Albany is your best bet. Good Luck, Zack
