Hi,
I need to get out of Westchester. Well I want to. I can;t move back to Manhattan .. Too poor. I'm looking for an "artsy" kind of place with a city vibe and no Yuppies . ANyone know about it? Thanks

I drove through Hudson a few times and my parents visited there for a day trip. Hudson has a few nice blocks with art galleries and kitschy shops. One or two blocks away it gets crime-ridden fast. It's also fairly isolated unless you love the outdoors.

New Paltz might be a better choice, if you don't like Hudson.

Unless you're in love with Walmart (the only department store there, and it's in Greenport), you'll need to travel to either Kingston or Albany to go shopping. Grocery stores are limited too, Shop Rite, Save A Lot, Price Chopper, and Aldi's are the chains. I grew up in the area (Columbia County), and it's changed since then. Used to be Hudson was very run down, you didn't want to be near Warren Street, which is now where all the antique dealers are. Some neighborhoods were bad when we left, but it was beginning to be revitalized, and turned into a more touristy, antique centered area. I don't know where all the previous inhabitants went to.
