Areas mentioned, including Saratoga have very low crime rate. You might look at the newspapers in the area (Times Union and Post Star).

The only crimes in the Adirondacks I can think of are people feeding deer, boating/driving drunk, littering...usually committed by the Park visitors.

Try places like Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Plattsburgh, Saragota Springs, Glens Falls, Old Forge and Ticonderoga, among others as options.

Made me laugh!
Hi...........put the crime issue on a waaaaaaay back burner. Moved up here from a city where you never left a car, house, bike, nice stroller even, or the worst was when people started even stealing pedigreed dogs and reselling them........
In other words, crime was everywhere and that doesn't even start with the murders, brazen home invasions, burglaries in broad daylight........you get the pic.
Moved up here and got a job and within the first few months, got made fun of because I locked the car when I went into the mall..........No one locks their car unless they just decide to out of habit. Even at Christmas I have walked by cars full of presents unlocked. Blew my mind.
The biggest shock came when my next door neighbors asked me if I could take a package when it came that day as they were going to be gone and it was going to get wet. I asked for the key since they wanted it inside their house for another family member and they just told me to put it inside the kitchen and laughed at me because they said they never locked the doors. i have since found out that many homes are exactly the same way, especially if there are close family members living nearby. They just come and go.
Now and then in the wintertime, when people leave their "camps"........(a camp can be a place worth 10,000 or 1 million) to go back home, a kid or couple of kids might try to break in if it's a remote location to take a stereo system or electronics, but they are usually caught.......another bonus for small town crime. You can run, but people are always caught up here. I don't know how they do it, but you just never hear of anyone getting away with anything up here. So..............do NOT worry about crime at all.....adapting to cold weather and snow, yes. Crime...............NO WAY!

Haha, those sorts of things blew my mind as well. My SO's house is never locked, even when no one is home for days and he never locks his cars--leaves the keys right in the ignition half the time. As someone else said, I think the only crime in the ADKs you'd have to worry about is people feeding deer and boating/driving under the influence.
