Republicans Take Back State Senate
Monserrato and Espada flipped parties. Honestly... I don't think it makes much difference either way. I'm trying to care but in New York State the two parties are equally corrupt and incompetent.

Doesn't make a difference. Until those in office are physically forced out, we won't see a change.

Is there any way we can get rid of all of them and start over?Seriously, NYS just needs a brand new constitution so we can start from scratch. These goons are too happy with the status quo to ever really change anything.

I agree. I'm a Democrat and I think that the Democrats "performance" during the budget process was an absolute disgrace. I think they ALL need to go. The only problem is, who is there to replace them? We're clearly not attracting quality people to elected office.

I think it's just great.
The Democrats made their bed...
To me the really good thing is that we won't likely see gay marriage in our state, as well as a few ridiculous gun control bills coming down the pipeline.
Hopefully the Republicans can be fiscally disciplined this time; they know how they lost the Senate in the first place (unrestrained spending), hopefully they don't fall into that again. This is great news for NEW YORK anyway!

Republicans take back NY State Senate!
Good. It will bring back some sanity by putting a check on Silver's runaway ultra liberal Assembly.

How long have you lived here? The Republicans will be no more fiscally disciplined than the Dems. The pork just goes to Republican districts instead now.

I agree with most everything. The only good news that I have heard lately is the local government consolidation. The state goverment on almost every level needs an overhaul.

I wouldn't call Sheldon Silver an ultra-liberal at all. I would call him a self-serving, verminous sleezeball and agree that he has to go.
I feel that NY news stations do not take nearly the level of interest they should in state politics, and generally the state seems to operate behind closed doors. It is VERY hard to keep track of whats going on in the state and I think that breeds feelings of invulnerability in those that are currently running things.
As a side note; many agencies in the state government are performing overhauls. It's unlikely to affect too many people at the top however, as unless they are strongly held accountable for their actions by sustained pressure from constituents, they are more or less untouchable.
