Default driving from NY to Ft Myers Florida

My husband and I are thinking to drive down to Ft. Myers rather than fly. I am not going to be driving. Can someone suggest where the best point to stop and rest would be to still get there in a decent amount of time? We just need to rest a few hrs say at a motel, but don't want to go out of our way or stay extra time vacationing somewhere else. We already have the best route, just want to stay somewhere safe but inexpensive

When you stop to get gas along the way keep your eyes open for a rack by the door that has a discount booklet for hotels by region. Very handy.

Talking Buy a GPS

I use to make the drive to Naples once or twice a year and the drive seems to take forever...and when you hit Florida and think you are there...ho ho ho...for now you are just beginning the second half of the trip...but getting back to your question...

Buy a GPS unit if you do not already have one...they are worth every penny you spend on one...not only does it let you know where you are...they can tell you where the next gas station...or hotels are...this way...you can plan ahead...and instead of guessing if the next exit has a hotel...you will know...have fun...and bring a pillow with you...

We have driven down several times and usually stop in Florence,SC. Its about 2/3 of the way down and we can get there in a days drive. I think it is called "Country Inn" where we have stayed twice and it was part of a big chain, very clean and new. Go online and set it up, I think it was $72/night. That left us about 7 hrs drive to orlando. We have also went straight through to orlando and made it in 18 hrs with only 3 stops for gas and personal business.
