featherz is on a distinguished road
I had to have 4wd in CA (I have a jeep wrangler) - I lived in the SB mountains at 6K feet and they don't salt the roads there. Anyone who wants to drive in the snow has to have 4WD or put chains on (EW).

Yay! I am SO happy to hear about a new New Yorker!!! I hope you love it as much as I did (and still do). Can't wait to go back there someday. Hope I don't grow to love Texas.

Don't get me wrong...I know that in almost any state, there are those who definitely need a 4WD. And I will admit, in my teens and twenties, I went through a "motor head " phase. But even then, I had other interests. From my visits to CA.(esp SoCal) there are folks out there that live every minute of their whole day around their car hobby. Yeah, I still do some hobby car work(restoring a Ford for a relative at the moment). But I try to keep it all in perspective..they're just a machine..not a reason to live your life for.
