Middletown-advice Needed Please
hi all-
my wife and i are 1st time home buyers and are heavily considering Middletown. We are originally from Queens and understand how neighborhoods can vary by a many factors. However, all I have been reading about Middletown on these forums has been negative.
I understand the school districts are horrible, but our children are grown and have flocked the nest.
Is Middletown really that bad?
Does anyone see it improving at all?
As you know, real estate in Middletown is considerably inexpensive, but this comes w/ costs. Will these costs inevitably lead to regret?
We have fallen in love with the "good" parts of Middletown and need some opinions about Middletown for a couple who loves upstate NY and the 1 1/2 hr commute to the city.
If not, what other towns offer affordable real estate w/ the reasonable commute?
Thanks so much-

Dont buy in Middletown schools, buy in Pine Bush schools if you come up this way. Still a Middletown P.O. box but actually town of Wallkill.

Yeah...even if you are in a "good" section of middletown..at least buy in the better school district...if nothing else..for peace of mind knowing that if you EVER had to sell..you could at least say you live "X" district of middletown.
Otherwise, I hear alot of good things happening in orange county.

Yes, Goshen is very nice IF you can afford it. People usually start in Monroe and end up in Scotchtown as its a bit cheaper than Goshen. Personally, I cant afford NY. We sold our home in Scotchtown and will be going south next month.

See this thread and read the article, Middletown, NY??, before deciding. There is a lot of discussion, pro and con, regarding Middletown on this board. I suggest reading the other posts about Middletown. Use the search function.

Middletown gets a bad rap partially because everything is sensationalized there. There are no fences to keep people confined to Middletown, why wouldn't neighboring towns be equally effected?
Read the statistics yourself and dont fall victim to others biased opinions.
I found a real estate search site I really like. It may help

Why Middletown? why not look at some property in Montgomery or Walden. Valley Central schools are decent and you can get to Middletown quickly and shop. You can get to the city in an hour and a half.

We are from Long Island and just got an accepted offer in Middletown! My husband works in Long Island City so he'll have about 1hr 20min commute. But, we have a great house for a great price and I have to say, we had a fantastic realtor (he was our 3rd, the "charm") If you want his name and number, I'll be happy to give it to you. Good luck!
