Default Have you been in the CROWN of the STATUE of LIBERTY

Tomorrow July 4th, 2009 the Statue of Liberty opens her crown again to the public! How many of you have gone up into Miss Liberty's crown? I did about two times when I was a young child. The last time I was there she looked bigger then ever. ( Did she grow?)
They will only allow so many people in per day, and so many per hour. You must go online now to get on a list to climb up to that crown. This is the first she has opened her climbing steps since 9/11. I am so happy she is back and going strong. Please take the poll so we can know how many have visited her honored steps.

Ya, last time we went we were unable to go up into the Statue because of 9-11. Little factoid, the base is actually an old fort.

I went up in the 70's. It was another lovely day in the city. My big brother lived in Denville, NJ at the time, and would take me, little sister, to the city every couple of months to 'do up the town'. We did everything and went everywhere: The Statue of Liberty, the Cloisters, ballet, Harlem, the Terminal Bar?! LOL

Did it once as a child and that was enough for me. Long lines of tourists on a narrow staircase in the dead heat of summer in NYC, waiting for your turn to peak out the crown and get a photo of the tablet in Lady Liberty's arms was a once only moment for me. I don't have the patience or desire to do it again.
