Default Sherman - Mina <Chautauqua> Building Question

This is my first post on these boards and I'd like to say thanks to all those who post such informative information for those like me in need of information. My wife and I love the Peek N Peak area of SW Ny and have purchased some land right on the Mina/Sherman line in Chautauqua County. It is a beautiful partially wooded and partial pasture lot. We'd like to build a fairly good size vacation home that we may, someday, retire to, as we love the rural life. Can anyone tell me anything about the area first hand that I should know? It seems like a low crime area and the few people we have met seem very friendly. I knwo they get a ton of lake effect snow there. I have heard that there are several groups of Amish that can build a home quickly, inexpensively and of better quality than the average "builder." Does anyone have any experience with this type of thing who can tell me approx how much per sq ft it would cost me to have the Amish build a house? I know housing in this part of NY is very inexpensive to start with and we are hoping to save more money having local trades people build it as opposed to a local larger builder. Are we on the right track?
