Philabatavia is on a distinguished road
Question Batavia: Do you consider us part of Buffalo's, or Rochester's region?

This question probably doesn't have a concrete answer, but it interests me. I can reach the suburbs of either city in equal time, and I travel to both about equally. I wonder if Batavians are grouped with either Buf or Roc due to social differences I haven't seen yet.

Parts of NJ (including the one I grew up in) face a similar question since they lie between NYC and Philadelphia, but the question is more easily answered there with the question 'What sports team do you root for?" (Philly teams all the way, personally. I die just as hard for the Eagles as you guys do for the Bills, and I feel a strong bond over the 'no Super Bowls' thing.)

Batavia statistically is closer to Buffalo. Rochester gets 5 counties for its metro region, while Buffalo has just 2. The unfairness of this results in the effect of a lot of confusion and complex reasonings. Batavia really is just of itself, however Buffalo sees a good chunk of workers come from Batavia to Buffalo, and even a few living in the suburbs of Buff, and commuting to Batavia. Just a couple thoughts to munch on...

Rochester sees the exact same thing with commuting.
I think Batavia is Batavia. Some of the residents seem to have more of a Buffalo accent but when all is said and done, its not really part of either. Its its own entity.

I feel the same, really it is its own city. And you end up passing through Batavia just about anywhere you go between Rochester and Buffalo. So many routes pass through the city, rt5, rt33, rt63, i90, rt98. Definitely a crossroads city for the two metro areas (maybe some history there?)

Batavia is geographically closer to Rochester, so I would say they are more like them. Orleans county is the real mixed bag.

As a NYSDOT employee, we consider Batavia to be in the Rochester region...

The regional planning council considers Batavia part of the Rochester region. However, I remember reading that Batavia is considered a "micropolitan" region of its own.

I live in Syracuse, and have always thought of Batavia as being sort of on its own.
