Default Small towns outside of Binghamton

We are looking to relocate from Long Island we are looking for:
1-small town, but not far from stores
2-good school district
3-easy to get to major highways (husband travels througout NY and NJ)
We've already looked in Northern NJ and now we are going upstate to look in the Binghamton area... any ideas of places to look into?

I'd say Endwell, Port Dickinson, Nimmonsburg, Vestal and maybe Conklin and Kirkwood. Endwell is in the Maine-Endwell SD. Nimmonsburg and Port Dickinson are in the Chenango Valley SD. Vestal is in the Vestal SD. Conklin and Kirkwood are in the Susquehanna Valley SD. I would say that Vestal is the best district out of those, but they are all pretty good and are near highways. Here's some information on for the area: City Of Binghamton, New York
Broome County, NY

jennchris, just as is the case on Lawn Guyland, what people refer to colloquially as "towns" are actually villages and hamlets, which are within actual towns; and, because villages and hamlets are referred to as "towns", then, many times, the error is compounded when actual towns are referred to as "townships".

Also, many colloquially refer to a "downtown business district" in a hamlet as a "village".

http://www.city-data.com/forum/new-y...-glossary.html may be of some help to you in understanding the geography of "New Yawk".

When you do find a house that you like, you can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) that house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP or Census Designated Place is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in "New Yawk".)

And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

It could work, but the highway access is a bit further away. Vestal would be a good choice, as Binghamton University is located there and the schools are really good. There's plenty of shopping there and is close to the highway.
