Here's some interesting reading. Sounds like there might be reliable sightings and DNA-scat confirmations but it's hard to prove that there's a breading population in the Northeast.

Great links!
I have to go back to the deer bones I found and look for teeth marks and any time I find remains. It will be interesting.

Hay a whole new hobby for the lady/kids from oneonta "parent in oneonta" cougar validation.

Cougars (Pumas/Mountain Lions) are not supposedly in the state at this time but historically they were. People claim to see them from time to time but there is no proof as of yet. Also people maybe seeing a large Bobcat or even a Lynx.

The third cat is the Lynx. The state is trying to reestablish a population in the Adirondacks but I have not heard anything about it being successful yet.
My husband's cousin has seen cougars on his farm in Cattaraugus Co. Lots of bobcat, coyote and bear as well.
We get coyote and bear in Erie county

I grew up in the poconos and the catskills, I've seen both bobcats and mountain lions in both areas. Best story is a friends relative who saw a "kitty " as she thought it was with a deer in its mouth .... she honestly at first thought we must have small deer.

I don't doubt there might be a few mountain lions in PA or NJ. The question is, are they makin' kittens? It's one thing to have an escaped lion running around, it's a totally different situation when you have a breeding population. That's what the real debate is about.

I've spotted a bobcat on my land (Delaware Co.) once or twice a year for the past four years. Last sighting a couple weeks ago- a relatively small/young one was stalking a rabbit and I think I actually saw annoyance on its face when it noticed me watching it and sauntered off. Bobcats have serious cat 'attitude!' A neighbor, a real outdoorsman, claims to have seen a mountain lion a couple years back- I don't think its a fish-tale. I'm not sure what the actual laws are, but I was told by someone that because mountain lions have protected status the state is under pressure to deny their existence and dispute sightings as it can complicate development plans. Someone else told me that positively documenting a rattlesnake or a mountain lion on the property they were trying to put into conservation trust would be like winning the lottery (at least in their efforts to put the land into trust). I can see why, from an economic development perspective, the state would want to make that difficult.

As I was driving last Nov. about 10 miles south of Keeseville on I87...a Mountain Lion ran across the highway in front of me....this was at around 3:00am.

I was in Delaware County, NY over the weekend and the locals said bobcats and
bears were seen recently.

I live in Westchester County and I feel terrible today after my return from Delaware County. My tongue is all white like I am dehydrated and I have a headache and ligtheadedness. I was wondering if being in the higher elevation in the mountains yesterday gave me altitude sickness or something, I never get headaches.

I stayed in a mountain home in Delaware County and was wondering if the mountains there are high enough to cause altitude sickness?
