Question HELP! Need info on cities in Orange County

Looking for info on Fort Montgomery and Monroe. How are the schools? Are house prices high? Does the area flood? Single mom with 7 yo old looking to relocate, possibly over the summer.

"Cities," isn't quite the word. They are towns. The cities in Orange you wouldn't want to live in.

Neither Montgomery nor Monroe flood save for extraordinary circumstances and then the flooding is kept to a small area.

Here is an article in the local rag about Orange county schools and how they rate:

Monroe is higher priced, Walden, Wallkill, Montgomery, Coldenham, Maybrook, Pine Bush, Cornwall, Washingtonville, Warwick check those. Not sure where you have to work.

How is the search going, found anything?
I am looking in the Monroe area myself, It seems the homes around Mountain Lodge area are more affordable.

Default Ft Montgomery is beautiful

Hi, My wife and I moved to Fort Montgomery in Jan 2006 and absolutley love it here. The views and the Hudson life is great. There are some really nice upscale townhomes in Corbin Hill and they are building more. You are 1 minute to the Bear MT bridge and right on the palisades pky. Commuting is easy.

The Mountain Lodge area is really a summer cottage colony converted to year round use. It has many problems as a community such as roads, septic, and water problems. It is literally on the side of a mountain so there is danger of icy roads and water runoff. You might want to consider another area to settle.

There are tons of great communities around Blooming Grove which borders Monroe, Chester, Hamptonburgh, Rock Tavern, New Windsor, and Washingtonville. You can find homes in any price range, but be VERY careful about your Taxes. They can be really high in this area due to the increase in population putting strains on the school system which is overcrowded with plans to build a new High School.

Default School Info

For local school information, check out:

GreatSchools.net or Schools, High School, Public Schools, School District, Public High Schools - SchoolMatters

You are able to see what schools are in each town, student to teacher ratio and you can also compare one schools district to another.

These sites have tons of great information. Good Luck!
