This will hopefully, if it gets far enough, make some significant changes in NY policy. For anyone who wants to lower tax to bring back business, shrink unions and consolidate government, rid us of unnecessary regulations this is your chance.

Quote:
From the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle:
But critics, including labor unions, have stymied constitutional conventions in the past and vow to rally against one again. They have a record of accomplishment: The state hasn't changed the constitution at a convention since 1938.

In 1997, in a highly charged battle between supporters and opponents, 62 percent of voters rejected a constitutional convention.

Through a media blitz then, detractors said a convention would cost $50 million or more and would be controlled by political leaders. Some opponents say the scenario hasn't changed, and the price tag would be higher now.
This is what we need to change, labor unions, huge government, taxes all have control over NY and hold us back. The last time we had a major change was 1938, that is WWII era. You want NY to flourish again, this is something you will support. $50 million is *nothing* in comparison to the tax dollars lost because of our business leaving. There is something just about every NY'er wants different, if you sit back and don't vote, you better keep your mouth shut.

The last convention was shut down because the leaders wanted a yes/no vote for everything as a package. If this one goes through, they say they will break everything down and we will be able to vote on individual items.

A convention is going to be pretty much dictated by the party in power. Their agenda won't be a conservative agenda.

Honestly, I am a little confused about the supposedly terrible shape New york is in. I'm pretty sure its doing just fine, and will be fine in the future. You worry about taxes too much, the states with the lowest taxes are almost all the states no one wants to live in. Businesses only go there to exploit cheap labor, its almost like our own mexico right here in this country.

The only question-mark right now is the deficit. Let me throw a number at you. We give out 24 billion more to the federal government than we get back from them, that more than covers our deficit, and this has been going on forever. So who is the beneficiaries of this money? Lets see Alabama got back about 14 billion more than it paid in, Louisiana got almost 20 billion more than it paid in. I say we cut these libertarian, north hating, the south will rise again obsessed nutjobs off, then they can really cry about taxes, and stop taking ours. Then we can provide our people with the same services and cut taxes, or expand services. The sky's the limit.

These are the 2005 numbers per state.

Exactly! NY, NJ, Connecticut, Massachusetts, California & Michigan need to stop subsidizing Missouri, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma & Louisiana. This allows them to keep their taxes low which in turn helps them steal our industry. Its funny how these Red states are so against welfare & higher taxes yet they have no problem receiving what amounts to welfare from the Blue states via the Federal Government.

Its not that I mind helping poorer people than me in other states, I don't. But I don't like helping whining unappreciative bastards that pretend they are better than us.

I don't understand how you could complain about me asking your for $10 when I give you back $15. You should shut your damn mouth and be thankful you have it so good.

So there isn't more to the problems in this state, than just taxes?
