Beachlover living in Rockland County, what are my options for a NICE family beach 4 little kids (no rough crowded kind)
No idea where to go in the summer. We all love the beach.

Beach season is over no? The Hamptons are nice, but its quite a commute from Rockland. Still it can be a nice little day trip.

If you don't want to go over TWO toll bridges, try either Playland Beach in Rye (I don't believe you have to be a Westchester County resident to go to it) or Sherwood Island beach in CT.

Playland is open to the general public but Westchester residents get a discount. Not sure if the beach is still open so be sure to check the website before you go: Playland

I believe they keep it open on weekends only until the end of September....or maybe just the weekend or two after Labor Day which means it is closed.

Playland beach looks kind of crowded and dirty to me. I wouldn't take my kids there.

If you're willing to spend quite a bit of money, Oakland Beach (essentially next door) is a lot nicer.

Is there a fee to enter Oakland beach? If I take a taxi there do I have to pay any parking type fees? Is it a private beach? Thanks 7 wishes.

When the season starts again, take the Palisades to Exit 16 and you'll have access to Lake Sebago Beach, Lake Welch Beach and Lake Tiorati Beach, all part of the Harriman State Park system. There is a parking fee but if you buy the Empire State Pass ($59 this year), you have free parking at all New York State parks, including the three beaches - right here in Rockland County.

Keep in mind that these are lake beaches, not ocean/Sound beaches. If you're looking for very large bodies of water or waves, it is a different kind of experiences (though waves tend to be small on the L.I. Sound as well).

It is private for the city/town of Rye, but there are higher non-resident fees. The fees are per visit, you don't have to buy a special pass or anything. They vary greatly with what day and time you go. You will not pay for parking if you take a taxi, but there is an admission fee as well.
I don't know all the fees, I used to go there more often (and I am not a Rye resident so I'd be paying the non-resident fees), but as best I remember it was about $2-10 to park (the lowest fees being weekdays after 6pm, but I think this year they started charging no parking fees after 6pm every weekday). Admission fees per person varied from I believe $2-10 or so (yes, $10 per person including kids, crazy as they may sound I heard of a beach in Greenwich that charges $20 or so per person for non-residents)). Admission used to be free to all after 6pm on Thursdays, I think this year they also made that the case after 6pm every weekday.
