Default Ulster, orange and sullivan county land/farming information please!

Hello, I am on my venture to see how I can be able to purchase some land property for farming and other agricultural ventures.

I am wanting to see if I should rent land first to be able to make a profit to later buy land but am wanting to find land at a good price but not far away from the city as thats where I live. I think about 1 1/2-2 hrs would be the maximum(I was thinking orange county, ulster, and sullivan county maybe even greene, columbia and delaware but am not sure etc). I know the farther you go the cheaper it is but want to know what areas I should be looking in. I have seen that it is much cheaper to purchase land in NY state than Nj. I am looking for min 23/25 but would like 30-40 acres. I know the more acres of land the cheaper the acre.

If anyone might have or know of someone who has land they are willing to rent at a good price, acknowleding that I could share crops/some profit. please let me know.

If anyone might have some land they are just paying taxes on or doesnt use it and would like to sell at a good price. Please let me know as well. I have done research and I feel like online sources have the most expensive properties. I feel like going on a car and just asking around as maybe someone elderly or who is moving might be willing to leave some land at a good price.

***Would going on a road trip and asking around be better than checking the mls and other "marketing" services? I found a 22 acre property for about $50,000 which isnt that bad would like to find something better if possible.

I do appreciate the help, thank you.
