Thumbs up Poughkeepsie RR WALKWAY Bridge Park FINISHED.!

I read the Poughkeepsie Journal article PoughkeepsieJournal.com | Poughkeepsie Journal | Poughkeepsie news, community, entertainment, yellow pages and classifieds. Serving Poughkeepsie, NY
& saw pictures of a FINISHED WALKWAY park over the Hudson . We were on a early committee 19 years ago to start this Rails to Trails Greenway project .
. Remember the day about 1974 when the Bridge caught on Fire from passing train. All the years of insurance & safety issues, finally moved away, no activity on the riverfront.
.Glad to see finally finished , this will draw tourism. Please post some more photos. I was under the Newburgh bridge taking pics day 2nd span was connected & that was historic.

It is such a huge accomplishment! We're hoping to get there soon to take a walk across. According to the Times Herald Record, there was a wedding held on the bridge just one week after the opening.

Thanks for posting about this. It was interesting reading about your involvement and history recollections.

For some photos, go to: recordonline.com - Times Herald-Record - recordonline.com. This is the site for the Times Herald Record newspaper. On the home page, scroll down to the "Your Photos" section and you'll see a link to Walkway over the Hudson. There, you'll see the photos posted by readers.

Also, you can search for articles about the opening, etc.

Just viewed a 10 minute History documentation on You Tube & best use of that site .
YouTube - Walkway Over the Hudson - Past, Present and Future
Why it took 19 years is a strange topic.

So the bridge connects with bike trails? -- on both sides of the Hudson?

Split -- Fantastic video! Thanks for posting it. We have not yet visited the bridge, but will post pictures when we do.

HomerBrink -- Yes, it connects rail trails on both sides of the Hudson.

P.S. The newspaper (Times Herald Record) is the regional paper of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster counties.
