He doesn't even know what the current plates look like. It's not like he would be able to tell if we changed our plates or not, lol, he can't see! I'm not making fun, just saying. Is a blind man really a credible source on plate reflectivity? That's like asking a deaf person if you are singing on key!

I got a look at what the new plates are supposed to look like. They look like the really old yellow ones. Personally, I don't like them and I like our shiny white and blue plates and thing the yellow and blue ones just look bad and old-fashioned.

The new plates will be phased in over a period of 2 years. There's no need to rush out and get new plates... when your registration is up for renewal, it will cost $25 more from now on and you'll get new plates and new numbers.
If you want to keep your old number, there will be a one-time, $20 fee.
Those who have vanity plates (customized), there will be no extra charge to keep it as those people have already paid extra through their regular fee.
So stop freaking out, people. lol - it's $25 extra, once every two years. $129M extra that the state NEEDS during this recession... if you have a problem with how it's being spent, contact your local representatives.

My registration is already $150 for two years. That is increasing as well as this plate fiasco. My plates are 4 years old and are in perfect condition. There's no need to create more waste to replace them.
Yes, NYS is short on funds. How about they drop some legislature losers? The useless governor take a pay decrease? Cut welfare benefits?
We didn't get ANY raise this year even though the costs of things have increased. Yes, this tax will hurt many people who really don't have $25 to spare. The people in the state are ALSO in a recession and have had to make major cut backs in their own lives. It's time the legislature losers did the same.

The new plates are on the website. New York State Department of Motor Vehicles - NYS DMV - NYSDMV - Driver - Vehicle They are ugly as SIN! They couldn't have come up with something better than that? After seeing SO many nice plates of other states, we get ones that a design team made super ugly.

New License Plates
OK, Here we go again. The public must pay 25 dollars to get new license plates.
What a freaking waste of our money. There is nothing wrong with the plates we have now. NYC will do anything to make our lives difficult. Ugh !!!!!!

There's a highway a lot of are sitting on waiting to get the heck out of here! It's looking like I will be out of here - FINALLY - in 2010. Not a day too soon.
The town I'm moving to has AMAZING property taxes. Put it this way....the ENTIRE year in this town is the same as ONE monthly escrow payment here! This is for a brand new house on half an acre. One of the best school districts in that state as well. The differences in other states is really amazing compared to what you get for your money here. And this same house would cost almost double to build it here. Things just cost far too much here.

Not unique to the South, CT and MA do this as well.
Seems funny that they announced this a day after Paterson had that "emergency session" about the budget. Yeah, it's all about the money, how pathetic (as are the look of these plates!).
