Hi Mike. Welcome to the fray. I think you are in for an interesting time taking up the forest mgt mantle. I am a member of NYFOA. It is an organization that offers a lot of great information on forest mgt and related topics. You will see useful links to the Cornell Univ. Cooperative Extension, the NY Dept of Environ. Conservation (DEC) and many others. NYFOA is really good at pointing a new forest owner in the right direction. So my short answer is, "yes" absolutely join NYFOA and learn as much as you can.
