Default Family looking for best commute and good schools for NYC relo

We're a family of four from the South with a 2 yr. old and a 7 yr. old (first grade), looking to relocate to NYC area. Will commute in/out of Manhattan. Office will be on West Side btw 52nd and 53rd.

Looking for a good town/community to live in, close commute (less than an hour), with good public schools that are not too liberal in teachings. We've lived in Ridgewood, NJ before, but w/o kids.

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks for your help.

Please elaborate. We don't teach creationism and abstinence-only sex education up here.

You forgot the most important info- what's your housing budget and do you want a single family home or an apartment.

It sounds like you don't want to live in NYC- suburbs, maybe? I suggest posting on New Jersey or Westchester County, NY boards.
