Commuting to NYC from Rockland County
First of all, thanks SuburbanDweller and other people's infomation for Rockland County's Tax. Now I have narrowed down my new house hounting to south Rockland county and just have some more questions regarding the commute to/from NYC.
The place I am going to relocate to would be either Pearl River, or West Nyack, or Orangeburg, or Tappan. I know there are Trains from Pearl River to Hoboken/Penn Station, and there are buses for other towns. I checked both the Train and CoachUSA's bus schedules, all take a little bit over an hour to reach Hoboken or Penn Stations.
My questions are:
1. Are there any other express train/bus to NYC from these towns?
2. How is the Parking around the train stations or bus terminals up there? Is it easy to find a parking space to park my car before I jump on the public transportation?
I am working in downtown Manhattan now. So my commute will begin with driving to the station, train ride to Hoboken, Path to WTC, walking to the office. Or, I can take bus, then transfer to subway. Anyway, I think the one-way commute will take at least 1 hour 40 minutes.
Are there any people familiar with those routes? Thanks very much for your input in advance.

I have some good news. There's a Coach "Shortline" commuter bus route that may just fit your needs pretty well.
It leaves from the RT. 59 commuter lot in Nanuet (just off exit 14 of the NYS Thruway). Parking is free, no permit required, and there are always open spots. It runs about every 15 min. from 6AM-9AM. It takes 45 minutes to get to midtown Manhattan.
Since you work downtown, there is even a special downtown bus that runs a few times in the morning. It skips midtown altogether so it's a quick ride downtown. No more getting off at Port Authority and jumping on the subway.
You should definately check it out. It's pretty affordable too. It costs $15 round trip if you pay daily, and only gets cheaper if you buy weekly or monthly.
Go to the CoachUSA site and do a search from Nanuet to NYC. Check out the "Northern District- Nanuet (Shortline)" route. That is the one you want!
Good luck!

Commuting to NYC
You can take a bus from Rt 59 to Tarrytown and hop on Metro North to the city or upstate. You do have to pay for parking in the non-resident lot. They are putting in a ferry from Haverstraw to NYC in the summer. Coach USA is a great bus system that someone previously mentioned. Rockland also has the NJ Transit train that takes you to Hoboken to transfer to the Path train into the city. Feel free to contact me if you are looking for an agent or some advice.

The bus routes are very well explained by Grassroots. The Route 59 lot is only a short distance from West Nyack.
The train from Pearl River is also a great option. They just finished a great expansion of the commuter lots in Pearl River so parking won't be a problem.
You can also catch a Tappan Zee Express bus that takes you from Rockland over to the Tarrytown MetroNorth station. It's only a short ride and then MetroNorth takes you to Grand Central then you'd catch a subway downtown. Although, it would be a lot easy to use the bus system, but always good to have other options.
In all honesty, I don't think it'd take an hour and forty minutes to get to work. Perhaps if you didn't take an express train but I've routinely taken the bus and subway down to Wall St in under an hour fifteen minutes. You just have to get your schedules in sync, make sure you aren't stuck on a local stop train.
Good luck!

Pearl River - Commute to NYC
Greetings:
I read your post. I just moved to Pearl River.....actually, I just got here yesterday. Where do you live now? I too will be commuting to Manhattan from here....There is a public bus that leaves from Main St. Pearl River and also a major train station downtown. If you have any questions about the town do not hesitate to ask. My wife and I looked for a house for over one-year and we are very happy with our choice.

Your best bet is probably taking the train to Hoboken and getting the PATH across. You can get the train in Pearl River, not far from Orangeburg at all.

I am trying to figure out how to get to Manhattan. I live in Orangeburg New York and took the bus this morning and it took so long. I was thinking about driving to Pearl River and taking the train. Would you happen to know if this would take less time. It took about 2 hours today, not sure if it was the rain or Monday's traffic. Thanks
