You people are making me even more homesick now. It's been 3 yrs down south for me. I have tried & tried to get used to it, and it's just not happening for me. I've gotten over the part about complaining all the time. So now I just grin & bear it. I'm waiting it out until my son graduates H.S. so I won't be back home until 2010. He says he wants to go to college in NY (yeah!). The price of real estate in NY still scares the crap out of me, but where there is a will, there is a way. I had a friend who moved to CA some years ago, lasted about 6 mos and came back and literally got down on his knees and kissed the filthy floor at JFK when he came back. I know someone else that went to Miami because it was a "hot spot" and last a whole year and eventually came to his senses and went back to NY. Oh well, it can work for some people. But I'm a NYer. Save me a spot at Yankee stadium, guys.

I know what you are saying. I was home visiting a couple of weeks ago and it makes me even more homesick. I don't think I have completely gotten over the complaining part yet but I don't do it as much. It can't happen soon enough for me.

You guys are making us NYers choke up! As they say, NY isn't just a state, it's a state of mind. The new stadium will be waiting for you....opening date is scheduled for April 09 and I hear it's going to be a beauty......

You know ... if enough of us got together and moved home at the same time, we could pretty much start our own town

What if all the Yankees in the south got the good idea of leaving all at once. Bet the sudden collapse of their economy would make them have a slight change of mind, ya think?

Change? Not likely!

When I moved here, my cousin in L.A. sent a card to me that read, "Welcome to Alabama. Please set your watch back forty years."

That about covers it.

So what does living in Alabama have to do with living in North Carolina? Nothing. NC is where the OP moved to isn't it? Lumping all Southern States together makes as much sense as assuming Life in Delaware or Pennsylvania is a good gauge of what it is like to live in New York. That couldn't be further from the truth in my opinion.

I don't see why it has to be an either or situation. I am a former NJ resident now living in Raleigh, NC. I love NC and I love NJ. I don't feel the need to bash one or the other to justify my life choices.

I agree with you North Raleigh Guy.....but this forum isn't just about NC....it says "moved south"...the previous poster was stating what it was like for them living in Alabama, which is also a southern state.

So what does living in North Carolina or New Jersey have to do with moving south and missing NEW YORK? Nothing. Lumping all states together makes as much sense as assuming life in Alabama is a good gauge of what it is like to live in New York. That couldn't be further from the truth, in my opinion.

Sorry, my friend -- I am perfectly on topic. But since you are not a New Yorker, and since you obviously do not feel like moving South was a mistake, I'm rather at a loss as to what drew you to this thread.

Hoo boy, it must be pretty dad gum boring on the NJ and NC boards to make you come all the way over to the NY board, just to put me in my place. If it'll help, I'll see if I can rustle up a group of NY forumers to come make comments about the posts over there, if you like. You know, comment on stuff we have absolutely no hope of ever understanding, having not lived in either NJ or NC.

Oh, and rest easy -- I wasn't bashing. Bashing would be "Alabama sucks," and I didn't say that. I just stated the truth - Alabama is hardly as progressive as New York. I don't think there are many who would disagree with that.

So glad your life choices worked out for you, friend. Not everyone can say the same. But, bless your heart, thanks for sharing -- it's always so nice to read posts from happy, shiny people, who actually have "choices" and whose sole objective is to invalidate your feelings. It makes you feel so special to be singled out. Sort of warm and tingly all over.

Cheers...

Zoe
