Default Real Estate close to NY

My husband and I both work in Midtown Manhattan. We are currently residing in a small one bedroom apt in Queens for which we pay $1700/month. This does not include electricity, or many other utilities an apt of that price costs. We are expecting our first child and are looking to move out ASAP as our lease will be up in 3 months and we do not wish to renew it, as there is not enough room in our current apartment for 3 people, as well as guests who are over often. My parents live in Northern NJ and we need a place a bit further from there. Can you please name a few areas in which I can look into as far as purchasing property as our budget is upto 350K, keeping in mind that we don't want to exceed one hour of commute time (for which we will rely on public transportation i.e. buses, trains, etc.), and also where one can raise a child, not having to worry about safety/crime issues. I would greatly appreciate a quick response. Thank you!

You might find some nice 2br condos in White Plains or Hartsdale. For example, a nice 2br condo was sold in White Plains around $300K yesterday. It is in a very nice area, a few blocks from the Trump Tower. It is not far from the city. You can walk to the train station and take a about 40 minites to NYC.

Have you considered Orange County? It is about an hour commute to the city. There are local train and bus stations that make commuting easy. It is also very affordable as compared to the city. I am a local realtor in the area. If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help you.
