Hi.
It was nice to here some opinions about these areas. We are still trying to determine where we are going to move to in the area. We are relocating because my husband has a position working at Graham in Batavia. We have 2children and wanted to be moved before school starts. We haven't sold our house in York, PA yet so we can't purchase yet.
We were very impressed with Alden and Pembroke area and their schools. The problem is we are looking for a nice place to rent until we sell our house, but these areas don't have rentals. When they do, they are typically not very nice. I have found a couple things in Clarence (we have considered this area). I'm worried about switching the children like that if we decide to purchase in the other areas. Why when everytime we mention Clarence, people say "big bucks live there!" Is it really that bad?! Is it really that clickish...again worried about the kids welfare and the extremely large district. Also, there seems to be no in-between?! You either have huge schools (kids can get lost in the shuffle) and close amenities or you have small rural districts (which I think we would prefer) with amenities at quite a drive.
Well, this entire relocation process has been so frustrating and anxiety producing, I just needed to say thanks for your posts. Any information helps. If we move to Alden, I hope they get that Wal-mart (sorry if anybody is offended by that..with the big controversy about it).

Hello.
I do not work for Wal-mart. I am a Registered Nurse. I just like the convenience and lower prices it brings to any area. Wal-mart has always been my "run to the store real quick to get 'anything' that is needed" and typically to do the majority of my grocery shopping.
Since I have not seen much to rent on the Buffalo side (which is where we really wanted to be), we are considering broaden our search and look to the Rochester side. Any opinions?
Thanks,
dtharvey

Hello,
I hope before you make any kind of move you really do your research. You might want to check Elma, Marilla and Lancaster. I just moved out to Cowlesville a year ago.( Close to Alden) I have to say it has been a big change for me but I love it! Yes I have to travel to go shopping, and go to work, but it is worth it when I come home to a place where I don't have to worry all the crime going on in the city. I grew up in Buffalo and lived in many areas( North Buffalo, Lovejoy, Sloan, Tonawanda, and West Seneca ) I am also a Bus Driver for Buffalo schools, so I get to see how bad the city is getting on a daily basis. The kids are not getting the education or the discipline they need. I see crime happening every day in the city and the surrounding areas. That is why I moved out as far as I could. Like you I also love to shop at Walmart but I do not want to see a Walmart move to Alden for the reason it would destroy the small businesses and Alden would then have a lot of empty store fronts just like Buffalo. So before you make a move you might want to ask your self what you would consider a Safe place for your children to grow up and what kind of summer activity's that community offers for them.

Could any of you give me suggestions on the roads heading into Varysburg? (Particularly 20a coming from the 400) I will be working there and can't seem to find any other logical route except 20a. I travelled it for the first time today and it was very hilly!!
Anyone know if the road is bad or doable for a WNYer in the winter.
Thanks!
