intersted in rockland county
does anyone have any suggestions as to what town/neighborhood may be good for us. i would describe me, hubby and baby (10 months) as follows:
from brooklyn; pretty liberal (e.g. only listen to NPR); a vegetarian (e.g. my fav grocery stores are Whole Foods/Trader Joes); love to work out (in gym or hike/bike/swin etc.); care for the environment deeply (recycle, reduce and reuse!); and need good day care (Montessori?)
Any suggestions or feed back would be great!
Thanks so much for your help.

You should check out out Nyack. Sounds like you would fit in very well there. The bad news is that there is not a Whole Foods/Trader Joes in Rockland just yet.

I agree with GrassRoots. Nyack sounds like it'd be a really nice fit for you. It's a nice artsy town with great access to the Hudson River. While there aren't any Whole Foods or Trader Joes yet, there are small independent stores like Back to Earth in New City and Mrs.Green's Natural Market in Suffern. Plus there are a lot of stores in Nyack with things I'm sure you'd love. They also have farmer's markets in Nyack.

The Nyacks along the Hudson river and up into Valley Cottage are pretty places with creative energetic lifestyles. There is a nice large park, Rockland state Park with a 3 mile walking / jogging path around it and a a few nice Hudson River recreational Parks with hiking trails. Some very picturesque settings up and down the river towns area.
Montessori schools are available also. Major shopping or local grocerie, you pick, it's there. Interesting restaurants, nite life, convenient to NYC, very diverse and cultural.

Nyack
You definitely want to check out Nyack, as you just described the folks of that community. It's a beautiful, energetic, artsy, fun river town with plenty of opportunities for vegetarianism. When I moved up here from Brooklyn and went to all the kindergarten orientations for my son, many of the parents I met had moved up from the Slope. It's a similar atmosphere to the Slope or the Village, just smaller, suburban, less sophisticated, slower and much more intimate. We'd welcome you and your family.
