Default Best hikes in NY?

We're heading to the Adirondack's in a couple of weeks, and planning to hike up Mt. Marcy. This is a great hike, with a big pay-off of amazing views when you reach the top. It does get a bit crowded in the summer months.

Any other hikers out there? I'd love to hear about your favorite trails in NY State -- especially those that are good for day hikes and are 10 miles or less round trip. Thanks!

Adirondacks are great ....I hiked up Algonquin Peak ...2nd highest Mtn after Mt Marcy ....I originally intended to hike up Mt Marcy but it is a much longer hike to get to the base ....view from top of either is fantastic ....another one I recommend is Lyon Mtn....it is reached from Chazy Lake ....it's almost 4000' high and on a clear day you can see Montreal ....

I'm not a hiker, but I really loved the hike I took up on Rockland Lake. It's about a half an hour hike. You get to the top and the views are amazing. You can see clear across the Hudson over to Westchester, the Tappan Zee bridge and on a clear day you can see the NYC skyline. It's glorious.

try leaving the high peaks , head south to Blue Mountain Lake/Indian Lake region.
Some of my favorites:

Blue Mountain - elev approx 3800/base approx 1800 - fire tower on top. Near rt. 28 in Blue Mtn Lake
Snowy Mountain - elev 3903 /base approx 1650. excellent views of high peaks to the north and Indian Lake. You can climb the fire tower on top. Top 1/2 mile very steep , you will need to use arms and legs. Also has a great lovers leap on top . about 3.7 mito top from trailhead on rt 30, which is 6-7 mi south of village of Indian Lake

Wakely Mtn - elev 3744, base approx 1700 - you need to drive a dirt road from Indian Lake village to access. Also has fire tower on top.
Good luck. watch for the black flies.
