Default Reckless driving..

Does anyone reading this know what can happen if a witness in NY, who is not a police officer, calls in a complaint about reckless driving? What usually happens?

If I have the license plate number, and am willing to testify that what I saw was reckless driving, can anything be done? Can a police officer write a ticket for reckless driving if he did not witness the act? Just wondering if a 'citizen's complaint" means anything...Thanks..

The only time it'd likely make any difference is if you call the police IMMEDIATELY so they can opt to try to locate the person immediately and witness further offenses.

The only time I've called 911 was when I was unlucky enough to follow what appeared to be a drunk driver piloting a small delivery van up onto sidewalk curbs and back and forth across the lines on both sides of his lane. I followed him for a while afterwards and never saw any police come, then he veered off onto some side street. I never received a call back from police or otherwise saw or heard anything.

You'd be wasting your time otherwise, in my opinion. "Officer, Joe Schmoe changed lanes without signaling! That's a moving violation go get him!"
