Red face Buffalo Vs. Albany

I live in Binghamton, New York right now and am undecided on whether I should go to grad school in Buffalo or Albany. I do not drive (I'm working on this, though) and will have to rely on public transportation, at least for the first 6 months. My interests are in the arts, culture and and the outdoors ie. camping/hiking etc. Any thoughts on either city will be helpful. Thanks.

If I were in your situation I'd choose Buffalo. Buffalo has a superior arts & culture scene than Albany and there plenty of outdoor activities in the area. Public transit in Buffalo is decent enough that you you could live your daily life without relying on getting rides from friends or catching taxis to get around. And there is frequent inter-campus bus service between the SUNY-Buffalo north & south campuses.

For arts and culture, Buffalo would be the better choice. For outdoor activities, Albany would be the better choice since its next to the Adirondacks.

There is camping-Hiking and sking in the southern tier of Buffalo at the Foothills of the Allegheney's not as good as the Adirondacks but it will be suffice! Furthermore You can take day trips to Niagara Falls and Toronto and return to Buffalo the same Day! SUNY Buffalo is a much better school than SUNY Albany. And there is a better section of colleges throughout western New York. In my opinion Unless you need to be close to New York City to visit family on the weekends Buffalo will be and is the best choice for you Good luck!

Thanks for the post. I was leaning towards Buffalo anyway. Just what I wanted to hear.
