Default Lake George Region-Ticks-Lyme Disease

Was curious to know what the tick situation is like in the Lake George region? I spend quite a bit of time outdoors in the southern tier and god knows they are quickly spreading north and west!

There is NO place in the US that doesn't have Lyme disease. It's in Europe, too. If you're going to be outdoors anywhere in the US that's forested, you need to watch for ticks.

joer...if they're in the southern tier, they're sure "stayin' under the radar. I'm out in the fields/woods every day. Have yet to find a lyme tic or it's "mark"...and woods tics....maybe a half dozen over the last 5 years....

I've been going to the Adirondacks for over 20 years and never worried about these things.

Tioga, I own a place in Schoharie county. I have had deer ticks on me on a couple of occasions after hiking. I have pulled a few off of my dog as well. Many of my neighbors have told me the same.

NY State has the highest rate of Lyme disease in the country.

Perhaps contact the Lyme Foundation; they will be able to provide a county by county breakdown. My daughter contracted it on Long Island.

It's bad news.

I've gotten Lyme disease twice, once was camping with my Girl Scout troop at a local facility-the other time at a soccer field. They can be anywhere. My spouse hunts and has never gotten a tick on him. Go figure. Just be smart and follow the guidelines in preventing getting a tick/tick bite. NYS has the worst of the Lyme disease, so just be careful no matter where you go.
