Question Relocating to Saugerties

Okay, so I've read through a lot of posts here. I am thinking about relocating to Saugerties, NY from Clearwater, FL for lots of personal reasons Is the general consensus that it is absolutely insane to commute to NYC for work? I worked on Wall Street about 6 years ago and loved working in the city. I've looked into salaries from Albany to Poughkeepsie and they are similar to Florida salaries yet the cost of living is higher in NY. Comments, questions, etc.?

Thanks for any input.

By helicopter its not bad I would assume, but You are looking optimally 2.5 to 3 hrs down 87 to NYC that traffic can be really awful as you get close or into the city. That is a great place to live I would find work and enjoy the Catskills forget NYC. my 2cents

Maybe you could drive to the Poughkeepsie station and take the train in from there? (Don't know about the parking situation in Pok, though).

Maybe you could work in someplace like White Plains, and cut some off the commute to Manhattan.

Default Commute is not too bad

I've been commuting from Albany to NYC a couple of times a week for the last 4.5 years by Amtrak. It takes 3 hours door to door. There are lot of people (a few hundred) that I've met that do the shorter 2 hour door to door commute from Saugerties by way of the Rhinecliff station. The QOL is tremendously better upstate, where your dollar travels a lot further.
