I want to like Nissan as they deliver a nice blend of performance and reliability. But there designs are actually painful. I shopped Quests when I was looking for a minivan for the wife and it was just bizarre looking - especailly the interior. When I was looking at sedans for me the Altima was too small ( I'm 6'4") and the Maxima was too ugly and not as fuel efficent as the Accord V6. The new small ute they have is flat out Pontiac Aztek fugly. The Infiniti line has always left me cold as well.
I agree. Nissan is ok, I don't think they are great and feel they are somewhat overpriced. Overall the style and lines just doesn't work for me. I find their vehicles a bit on the ugly side these days.
Someone mentioned the Juke and I finally saw one in person the other day on the road and it made me do a double take. It looked sort of OK in the commercials, but in real life it made me wonder who in their right mind would spend money on a car that looked like that. Someone made the Aztek reference...sorry but I think the Aztek looked better.

I have rather limited experience but it has been good. We bought a brand new 1980 210 that was trouble-free until 1994 when we traded it in, got 36-42 mpg. Kind of wish I still had it with gas prices now at $3.50. My son drives a 1995 Pathfinder, with about 150k miles now on it. Only had to replace a belt and heater fan motor.
One Brother loved his, ranted and raved for years...other Brother bought one and had nothing but troubles from jumpstreet. Go figure. It's a split descion at family gatherings. YMMV
I had an uncle that had an 80's Nissan Truck, at 250K mile was still running okay, even after he flipped it on the fwy, it was pushed back on the wheels and was drivable. I personally have not had Nissans, mostly because I always buy used and I get what is available on the week that I need the car.
Our first was a 1990 Stanza that my wife bought. We had been buying cars that fit both of us and I told her to buy one that fit her. One out of warranty repair in 13 years.
In 1995 we bought my next car, a new Maxima.
In 2003 her Stanza was traded for another new Maxima. 13 years and it still ran like new. I think it had about 60k miles on it. Every time we took it in for warranty work the salesman would come out and ask us if we would trade it in. He had people lined up wanting one....
In 2008 My Maxima was traded in on a 2008 Sorento. Quite a change, but I couldn't pass up the price. Again, very little work to be done out of warranty.
Overall Nissans are excellent vehicles in our experience. The local sales force is not so good... The next time we buy one we will deal with the sales manager (one of the owners) or not buy one.
I wonder if I'll still have the Sorento in 2021...
Her Maxima is 8 years old and has yet to reach 55k miles. It should be interesting to see what we replace it with. Something we will do shortly after she retires next year. A new highway car is in the offing.
I generally only buy GM products but Nissan makes some nice looking vehicles.
I would never own one and my reason is actually very trivial: I HATE ORANGE GAUGE CLUSTERS!!!!!
