Remember when Datsun/Nissan meant affordable fun to drive cars? Though not fast, even the B210 and 200SX were fun to drive. At one time the Datsun/Nissan's sedans were sporty, affordable, and fun to drive. At one point they had two of the most sought after sports cars (300Z and 240SX). Needed more room? The Mazima and Stanza provided four door fun. Even the lowly Sentra had a well rounded sport model. Today they have the 370Z, along with a very high price tag compared to the 240Z and 280Z when compared to prices of their time period. I guess the Altima Coupe is the modern day 240SX. Though faster than the 240SX, it just doesn't have the sporting appeal the 240SX had. The Sentra does have a sport model, no really, they do! But the car itself is of such odd proportions in design that it almost looks like a pill bug on stilts. It's like they didn't know what to do with the poor thing. Corolla was designed to be a reliable, fuel efficient, unassuming vehicle (aka an appliance). Civic was designed to look sporty. Mazda 3 is sporty. The styling of the Elantra and Forte look ten times better than the Sentra. The Mazima has a good engine hooked up to a continuously variable transmission. If they want to attach the sports sedan label to the Maxima then give it at least a 6 speed automatic/manual transmission.
Government regulation. Being a smaller company, Nissan can't afford to have as many models as Honda and Toyota. Toyota has small cars, the Prius, etc to help them meet government MPG requirements. Nissan needs to keep their few cars as efficient as possible. This is why the Maxima is hooked up to a CVT rather than a 6 Speed.
Dangerous! When he floored it on the road he couldn't keep the car straight from the wheel spin. Either too much power, not enough tire grip, or ignorant driver.
i think its funny how american pronounce the word nissan = nee - sann
in europe or at least the uk and ireland , its niss - ann
as for the cars themselves , IMO , thier not as good as they were twenty years ago when they were as good as toyota , i think thier average cars at best and most of them are plain janes , qashkai is ok i suppose

The quality of Nissan vehicles (and most other car companies as well) seems much better. My sister had a 1983 Nissan Sentra Wagon that barely had enough horse power to maintain 65 mph on the freeway and had so many engine rattles that she worried pieces of the engine would start falling out
I have a 2010 Nissan Versa hatchback that is absolutely flawless for an "econ box". Handle great, has enough horse power to merge on the freeway, no engine rattles at all, and it has really nice storage areas and cup holders (actually more of both than my in law's 2011 Camry). Mine has 42,000 miles on it and zero problems at all. Sis's '83 barely made it to 120,000.
