BTW, steps 1-5 are covered by the cost of the PART. I recently bought a set of steering wheel controls for my Versa. While 2009 and up come with lighted switches, the 2007 and 2008 do not. I wanted to try swapping mine out for the new part. It's a specialized part with several different configurations depending on the options package, so I had to order it. They didn't try to charge me any labor fees just for ordering the part.

You think so? I would like to see you try and run a profitable business charging labor rate by the minute.
Do you understand how a business works? Do you understand what overhead is? How about labor rates?
So bringing the car to them should somehow make a difference? Ok well it doesn't. You're the one who wants the job done. You go to them. It's not that kind of service where they come to you. Those services charge you a trip charge for their overhead this one charges you when you walk in. Do you expect the supermarket to bring the food to you so you can walk out shop and go back in the house?
Come on be realistic
You are STILL paying the built in profit of the part the "labor" fees were already built into the price on the sale of the part. The labor to install is a different charge. They don't have to charge you labor. I was simply listing it in the sequence of the total steps of the job. It still covers the parts guy labor. By DIY the only thing you got to circumvent is the installation labor charge. That's it. And if you buy somewhere else you're paying for their labor and shipping fees. But how much time did it take you to complete the job? From the point you walked in the dealer to buy the part? Till you got home.
If you don't like the price as a consumer you have the freedom to shop around or fix it yourself.
