First: Yes, I know. I know it ain't worth it. The car is a POS and isn't worth major surgery.
That out of the way... what would you charge or expect to be charged to install a reman engine & CVT in this car? Assume the CVT is a loss, and assume the short block is a loss, but the head and ancillaries are fine.
If I was dead set on making this car run I would look at junk yard parts with some warranty. Maybe buy the transmission rebuilt and put in a junk yard engine.
If one adds up the cost to do such - might be cheaper just to purchase a used altima.
